From 2014 to 2020, the author acted as CTO at VMware, covering vast regions and enjoying the travel aspect of the job. Despite his technical background, he found that honing communication skills—both verbal and written—was equally important for career success. His experience writing a PhD thesis highlighted this belief, revealing the satisfaction in clearly articulating complex ideas. Amidst the challenges of the COVID era, he focused on enhancing his presentation skills and developed a PechaKucha talk, emphasizing creativity and efficiency in communication.
The longer I worked in technology, the more I came to believe that communications, both oral and written, can be a key differentiator in a technical career.
I had written a lot less software in my course than I'd expected... So watching my ideas grow on the page into something the size of a book was oddly satisfying.
