Four women are leading a class action against the Commonwealth alleging widespread and systemic sexual abuse, harassment, discrimination and victimisation in the Australian Defence Force. Any woman subjected to sexual violence, sexual harassment or discrimination while working in the ADF between 12 November 2003 and 25 May 2025 is eligible to join. An air force applicant reported being one of two women among about 200 people and alleged sexist comments, unsolicited pornographic images and hostile conversations during training. A navy applicant alleged daily lewd comments, unwanted touching of her uniform and being grabbed and kissed while on duty abroad. Another air force member reported complaints that did not lead to prosecution and deteriorating mental health, and called for change to make it safer for victims to speak up.
