Women calling for greater support with menopause
"I had anxiety and overwhelm, my stress levels were through the roof. I was having anger fits that I had no idea why,"
"I could carry a meeting without any problems, but then I'd be sat there, not knowing what the name of something was that I've known for years, then you're embarrassed, then the hot flushes come and the anxiety and overwhelm and it was just all too much."
"Every time I went back to the doctor they said, 'your levels are fine, you're fine.' 'But I would sit there in tears and think 'I'm not fine' and I didn't know why.'"
"They fear the unknown. So, the more that we educate, the more that we talk about it, women aren't going to fear it."
Women in the Channel Islands report severe menopause symptoms and a lack of sufficient support. Dani Barnett experienced surgical menopause at 40 after ovary removal and suffered anxiety, anger fits, extreme brain fog, hot flushes and memory lapses. Repeated medical checks reportedly returned normal levels while symptoms persisted. Barnett launched a Guernsey business in September 2025 to support other women and promote education to reduce fear. Trudi Roscouet stated that women's health is not a government priority. The States of Jersey said it is committed to strengthening services; the States of Guernsey was approached for comment.
