WNBA All-Star players wore shirts stating "Pay Us What You Owe Us" during warm-ups, emphasizing their demands for better revenue sharing and salaries. The ongoing collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations face significant hurdles, as players, including WNBPA officials Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, expressed disappointment with the league's proposals. Over 40 players attended a recent negotiation meeting, showcasing unity and determination. They aim for a transformational CBA that appropriately addresses compensation issues as highlighted by player comments regarding the importance of their presence and commitment to securing fair treatment.
"The biggest thing that's the holdup right now is we want more salary, we want bigger salary and that type of thing, but we want to talk about the percentages and the revenue share," WNBPA vice president Breanna Stewart said. "Based on their most recent proposal, we just aren't able to get to a place where we're actually even talking about the same thing."
"We were disappointed for sure. What they came back with was just nowhere near what we asked for or even in the same conversation," said WNBPA vice president Napheesa Collier.
"We mean business and we are going to demand everything, and we're going to keep going until we get what's right," said Las Vegas forward A'ja Wilson.
"This was a very historical way for players to show up, and they understood how big the moment was," union president Nneka Ogwumike said.
