Williams announced plans to play a WTA tournament in Auckland two weeks before the Australian Open, where she also received a wild card. She last appeared at Melbourne in 2021 and finished runner-up in women's singles in 2003 and 2017. Williams holds a 54-21 record at Melbourne Park and will become the oldest woman to compete in the main draw. In late December she married Andrea Preti.
