We talk a lot about how we're not out here to prove that we're defending national champions or we're preseason number one in the country, and we have to beat everybody by 40. UConn enters the season as the AP preseason No. 1 after receiving 27 of 31 first-place votes, led by sophomore Sarah Strong and super senior Azzi Fudd. South Carolina was picked second with the remaining four first-place votes. UCLA, Texas and LSU filled the next three spots, and Oklahoma earned its highest preseason ranking since 2008 at sixth. Duke, Tennessee, NC State and Maryland rounded out the top 10. UConn has been preseason No. 1 thirteen times since 1995 and won national championships eight of the twelve previous occasions it held that ranking.
