Julie Allemand’s arrival in Toronto was preceded by stories about her ability to control the tempo and direct the court. The Tempo’s coaching staff highlighted her role as a facilitator and floor general even before she joined training camp. Allemand came to Toronto on April 27 after winning a EuroLeague Women championship with Fenerbahce Opet and earning MVP honors. In her first two games, she has asserted control of the floor and become a top passer while also identifying offensive gaps. After an opening game with crowding above the free-throw line and no corner presence, she focused on spacing as the biggest improvement needed. She noted that as a point guard she is not used to playing in the corner, but doing so without the ball helps maintain spacing and supports teammates’ positioning.
