Surrey start Women's T20 Blast defence with win

Surrey started their Women’s T20 Blast title defence by chasing 186 to beat Lancashire Thunder by six wickets. Lancashire made 185-7 with Eve Jones scoring 56 and Meg Lanning making 40 off 22 balls. Surrey reached the target with seven balls to spare, led by Bryony Smith’s 71 off 35 balls and support from Alice Davidson-Richards, who finished unbeaten. Essex beat Warwickshire Bears by seven wickets after Warwickshire posted 164-8, with Abbey Freeborn making 86 not out. The Blaze defeated Yorkshire by four wickets, with Jess Jonassen contributing 52 and Charli Knott scoring 57 on debut. Somerset’s match against Hampshire Hawks ended in a tie, with Hampshire failing to win in their chase.
