Queens to host nine Olympic soccer games as part of LA28 - QNS
"Bringing Olympic Football group stage and knockout matches to stadiums across the United States means more fans will witness this global event and experience the Olympic spirit firsthand. Shana Ferguson, LA28 chief of port and games delivery officer, emphasized the significance of distributing matches across multiple venues to maximize fan engagement and Olympic experience throughout the country."
"Witnessing a home Olympic Games is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. Hosting LA28 Olympic Football matches at the future home of New York City FC will be an honor for the club, according to NYCFC CEO Brad Sims, highlighting the significance of the stadium's role in bringing international Olympic competition to Queens."
Etihad Park, a new soccer-specific stadium under construction in Willets Point, Queens, has been selected as a host venue for the 2028 Summer Olympic soccer tournaments. The 25,000-seater stadium will host nine games total: eight men's and women's group stage matches across three dates in July, and one men's quarterfinal match on July 20. Etihad Park is one of seven venues nationwide hosting Olympic soccer, alongside Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San José, San Diego, and Pasadena. San Diego will host semifinal and bronze medal matches, while the gold medal matches conclude on July 28-29 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The extended competition window allows teams additional rest days throughout the tournaments.
