'I'm so proud of how I handled myself out there' - Sara Byrne records career-best runner-up finish
Sara Byrne, 25, finished tied for second in her third Ladies European Tour start since fracturing her elbow, shooting a level-par 71 in the final round. She entered the last day three strokes behind Helen Briem but ended seven strokes back at five-under par. Briem, 20, won with a bogey-free 67 for 12-under and a seven-shot margin, the largest on the LET that season. Byrne made two birdies and two bogeys in a 35-putt round and said she played her best golf all week but no putt dropped. The €29,250 prize moved her to 38th in the Order of Merit after her January injury. Aine Donegan tied for 21st on level par, while Anna Foster finished tied for 46th on three over.
"Byrne feared for her career when she fractured the radial head in her right elbow after slipping on ice outside her trainer's gym in January. It was just her third start since returning to action, and a cheque for €29,250 catapulted her to 38th in the Order of Merit."
