Good news: men have stopped disrupting women's sport with dildos. Bad news: now they're betting on their periods | Arwa Mahdawi
"The culprits were reportedly members of a cryptocurrency group trying to boost a memecoin called Green Dildo Coin. It was all very 2025: brainrot stunts, get-rich-quick schemes and memeified misogyny. And, of course, the Trump family joined in. Donald Trump Jr, who fancies himself an edgelord, posted a crude picture of his dad throwing a green dildo on to a court of young, female basketball players."
"How on earth would some random internet user know where a professional athlete is in her cycle? Most of the time it seems they are just guessing. One Instagram user called fademebets, for example, published a video of basketball star Caitlin Clark earlier this year where he announced: She is on the end of her late luteal phase, meaning a decrease in cardio, decrease in strength, decrease in aerobic system."
Neon-green dildos were thrown onto WNBA courts during late-July play, disrupting at least six games and linked to a cryptocurrency group's attempt to pump a memecoin called Green Dildo Coin. The stunt combined online get-rich-quick tactics, meme culture and misogyny, and attracted attention from public figures including Donald Trump Jr. Arrests and threats of bans reduced the dildo-flinging incidents, but women's basketball continues to attract toxic attention. Gamblers and sports-betting influencers increasingly promote 'period betting', speculating about players' menstrual-cycle phases to predict performance. Influencers sometimes publicly guess or assert players' cycle stages, despite unclear or nonexistent evidence.
