There's more to Italian sparkling wine than prosecco
Briefly

The author's university experience included enjoying cheap prosecco, specifically Plaza Centro, which was favored for its sweetness. Over time, personal taste has shifted from sweet to a preference for wines with acidity and savory flavors. While prosecco's appeal was based on affordability and sweetness during youth, there are now numerous Italian sparkling wines that deliver more complex profiles. The Trento DOC produces metodo classico wines with secondary fermentation, contrasting prosecco’s tank method, offering options for those seeking alternatives.
Prosecco was my go-to drink during university, valued for its low price and sweetness. However, my taste has evolved towards wines with more acidity and complexity.
During my student years, I enjoyed Plaza Centro prosecco from Tesco Express, which cost 5.50, and loved its sweetness while socializing with friends.
Now, with a preference for acidity and savory flavors, I have discovered that Italy offers a range of sparkling wines beyond just prosecco, each with distinct characteristics.
I am excited about Italian sparkling wines from various regions, such as Trento DOC’s metodo classico wines, which provide a different profile compared to prosecco.
