Bob Baffert returns to the Kentucky Derby for the first time in four years after serving a suspension from racing due to Medina Spirit's drug test failure. The famed trainer has prepared two strong contenders for this year’s race, Rodriguez and Citizen Bull. Reflecting on his absence, Baffert expressed his enthusiasm for racing again and acknowledged the great Derby experience comes with having a competitive horse. He also shared his regrets regarding the steroid incident that led to the disqualification of his previous champion.
Baffert expressed, "We never denied the positive, he said. We knew we had the positive.' He added that his biggest regret is not being aware of the steroid's implications before the race."
Baffert reflected, "I'm going to have fun now that everything is behind me, Baffert told The Associated Press in an interview this week."
On his return, Baffert said, "Going back with a live horse is more important to me, I really feel like this year I have two horses that could be in the top five, top 10."
