Glen Scotia has launched its oldest whisky yet: a 50 Year Old single malt Scotch as part of the Elements of Campbeltown series. This inaugural release, named 'Air', reflects the maritime influences on Glen Scotia's character. Distilled in 1973 and matured in American hogshead barrels, the whisky boasts flavors of sweet vanillary fudge and salted almonds, surprising in accessibility. To enhance the experience, Glen Scotia partners with artists like Gina Parr, who interprets the whisky's essence through artwork that embodies the local landscape.
Responsibility for whisky of this age, where the passage of time shapes and molds the character of the spirit, is a privilege," comments Loch Lomond Group master blender, Michael Henry.
I want to give people the opportunity to experience our distillery character at this remarkable age and showcase how time has shaped it.
For the first release, Glen Scotia has collaborated with contemporary painter and photographer Gina Parr.
Parr's artistic response to the whisky captures the strong airstream that rips through Campbeltown and the salty vapors that live in the distillery.
