Black-owned wineries celebrate 15 years of love' in Berkeley this weekend
"Our goal has always been to be better than the year before, and we believe we have delivered. We are most proud of the community we have built—winemakers, artists, musicians, attendees and the volunteers that make it happen. We look forward to continued learning—leading with love, always."
"The wine festivals and events that Black Vines curates are intended to show consumers they have options to support Black-owned wineries, and also make wine tastings less intimidating to outsiders and more fun and accessible. We curate experiences throughout the country and even internationally. So you never know where we may pop up."
Black Vines, a Bay Area organization dedicated to Black oenologists and wine culture, is celebrating its 15th anniversary on February 28, 2026, in Berkeley. The event features over 20 Black-owned wineries, live jazz music, art installations, and a culinary experience by celebrated chef Michele McQueen. Black Vines represents approximately 40 partner wineries and provides members with discounts on tastings and events. The organization's mission centers on making wine accessible and less intimidating while supporting Black-owned businesses. Founder Fern Stroud emphasizes the importance of community building among winemakers, artists, musicians, and volunteers, with plans to continue expanding celebrations nationally and internationally.
