Pillows are aired by placing indoor pillows on bare wrought-iron patio chair frames after removing outdoor cushions, allowing airflow between the chair frames. Weather-permitting, pillows are left in the sun all day each Saturday. Heirloom quilts are aired at each equinox by hanging them on a patio fence with oversized clips, with the print side not facing up for too long to prevent fading. Sunlight reduces bacteria and odors, and fresh air helps linens that are too delicate for biweekly washing smell cleaner.
