Latest Vivaldi release tucks its UI away until summoned
"This feature has been developed to give our users maximum real estate for control, without losing the controls they would like to have available. It works in both full screen and restored/normal window."
"There are obviously some security implications, not least the fact that the URL is completely hidden, which means that it might not always be clear which website is loaded. Not all of the expected bits disappear either."
"As always, we're shipping with No AI. No tracking. No BS. Just the web, edge to edge. Or Vivaldi to Vivaldi."
Vivaldi browser has launched a new auto-hide feature that eliminates all browser interface elements, providing maximum screen real estate for web content. Users can activate this through an icon or keyboard shortcut, and the interface reappears when the mouse moves to the window edges. The feature works in both full-screen and normal window modes, with a setting available to restrict it to full-screen only. While this maximizes viewing space, security concerns exist since the URL becomes completely hidden, potentially obscuring which website is loaded. The 7.9 release also includes new features like opening links as tiled follower tabs and opening the mail composer in separate windows. Vivaldi maintains its commitment to privacy with no AI, tracking, or unnecessary features.
