Is it Time to Un-Sass? | CSS-Tricks
"I started using Sass in March 2012. I had been hearing about it through different things I read. I believe I heard Chris Coyier talk about it on his then-new podcast, ShopTalk Show. I had been interested in redesigning my personal website and I thought it would be a great chance to learn Sass. I bought an e-book version of Pragmatic Guide to Sass and then put what I was learning into practice as I built a new version of my website."
"It was very easy to get up and running with Sass. I used a GUI tool called Scout to run Compass. After some frustration trying to update Ruby on my computer, Scout gave me an environment to get up and going quickly. I didn't even have to use the command line. I just pressed "Play" to tell my computer to watch my files."
Use of Sass began in March 2012 after exposure via a podcast and an e-book. The Pragmatic Guide to Sass was purchased and lessons were applied to a website redesign. Compass was recommended for processing Sass into CSS, and SCSS syntax was chosen to stay close to plain CSS and maintain core CSS skills. A GUI tool called Scout was used to run Compass, easing setup despite Ruby update frustrations. Scout provided file-watching and removed the need for initial command-line use, with later movement toward command-line tools.
