Wear OS 7 unveiled with widgets, Live Updates, improved battery life
Wear OS 7 is the next smartwatch operating system based on Android 17. The update adds flexible widgets in 2x1 and 2x2 layouts and enables live updates so apps can display real-time information at a glance. System media controls are upgraded with per-app media auto-launch controls and seamless audio routing through a Remote Output Switcher. Wear OS 7 includes a Wear Workout Tracker for a standardized workout tracking experience and support for Watch Face Format v5. Select smartwatches will receive Gemini Intelligence later this year, including agentic experiences supported by a new App Functions API. Task automation is also planned, such as voice commands to place orders on DoorDash. Developers can test using the Wear OS 7 Canary Emulator, with release later this year.
"For example, users will be able to use voice commands to complete actions such as placing an order on DoorDash. Developers can test out Google's new smartwatch software via the Wear OS 7 Canary Emulator. Wear OS 7 will be released later this year."
