A decade of daily Apple Watch wear and nightly sleep tracking since 2019 established deep familiarity with wrist-based monitoring. Friends and acquaintances have increasingly adopted smart rings, prompting hands-on testing of the Oura Ring, Samsung Galaxy Ring, and Ultrahuman Ring Air. Repeated trial periods with rings resulted in removing them and returning to the Apple Watch as the primary health tracker. Comfort is the main differentiator: the Apple Watch Ultra becomes barely noticeable overnight, while several smart rings (notably Oura 3/4 and Ultrahuman Ring Air) feel bulky and distracting during sleep; the Samsung Galaxy Ring is thinner but still more noticeable than traditional jewelry.
I've been wearing an Apple Watch every day for the past decade and I've been using it to track my sleep every night since 2019.
