Google's Wear OS 7 Unveiled With Wear Widgets, Live Updates, More

Wear OS 7 was previewed at Google I/O 2026 and will be available later in 2026. The update is based on Android 17 and can be tested using the Wear OS 7 Canary Emulator. Wear Widgets introduce new UI card layouts in small and large formats, aligning with mobile 2x1 and 2x2 sizing and providing consistency with Compose. Google claims power optimizations that improve battery life by up to 10 percent for upgrades from Wear OS 6. Live Updates will show real-time app information on the watch, including rides, sports scores, and delivery updates. Developer APIs support Gemini Intelligence integration, including AppFunctions for voice-driven task completion. Select smartwatches launching this year will receive Gemini Intelligence assistance on-wrist.
