Wizards could turn their EuroBasket luck around by signing this standout player
"There's no denying that EuroBasket play hasn't exactly been on the Washington Wizards side this season. Between the injuries to both Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly, it's fair to assume that not only the Wizards' fanbase, but the front office would be fine not watching international play ever again. Washington doesn't need any more injuries under their belt, especially to their young players who the team is hoping to prioritize in their rebuild moving forward. However, the Wizards front office being forced to watch overseas play this offseason could work in their favor, especially following the injury of Coulibaly, who's absence could be major in the team's backcourt if he's set to miss time to start the season."
"Washington has been aggressive this offseason as general manager Will Dawkins continues to look for every way possible to get his team in position to take a leap next season. Whether it's taking swings on potential with former first-round picks, adding veteran leadership or young talent seeking a larger opportunity, the Wizards have made it clear that earning a roster spot could be open to any standout players in training camp. If that truly is the case, Washington should consider signing Isaac Bonga, who impressed during his stint in EuroBasket play this offseason. Bonga began his NBA career in Los Angeles with the Lakers, where he spent one season before finding his way to Washington to join the Wizards. The former second-round pick spent two seasons in D.C. with the Wizards before his tenure in the league eventually came to an end after a lackluster run with Washington and the Toronto Raptors. Despite that, the Germany product has clearly carried the chip on his shoulder and used the rejection from the NBA to fuel his development, because not only does he look like he's added plenty to his game, but his confidence seems to be on another level."
EuroBasket participation produced injuries to Washington Wizards prospects Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly, raising concerns about early-season availability and backcourt depth. Coulibaly's injury could create a significant hole if he misses time to start the season. General manager Will Dawkins has pursued multiple roster avenues this offseason, signaling openness to adding standout players. Isaac Bonga, who impressed during EuroBasket, represents a potential target. Bonga's NBA resume includes the Lakers, Wizards and Raptors, followed by overseas development. Bonga displays an improved jumper, defensive versatility, renewed confidence and a motivated mindset that could align with Washington's rebuilding priorities.
