"Under coach Kenny Blakeney, the Bison have made the tournament three times in the past four seasons; prior to his arrival, their last NCAA appearance was in 1992. Do-it-all junior wing Cedric Taylor III averages 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per game- making him the only Division I men's player to average 17+ ppg, 6+ rpg, 3+ apg, 1+ spg and 1+ bpg."
"The Retrievers have won 12 straight games and are connecting on 38 percent of their three-point shots-a very important number for underdog teams! In 2018, UMBC scored the first victory by a No. 16 seed over a No. 1 seed in NCAA tournament history by defeating Virginia."
"Howard's men's and women's teams have made the NCAA tournament in the same season for the first time in school history."
March Madness 2024 features ten teams from the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region competing in NCAA basketball tournaments. Howard University's men's team, coached by Kenny Blakeney, makes their third tournament appearance in four years, led by junior wing Cedric Taylor III who averages 17.3 points and 6.5 rebounds. UMBC's Retrievers enter with a 24-8 record and 12-game winning streak, shooting 38 percent from three-point range. Both Howard and UMBC are seeded 16th in the Midwest region and face each other in the First Four on March 17. The winner advances to face top-seeded Michigan on March 19. Howard's men's and women's teams both made the tournament in the same season for the first time in school history.
