The young Wizards get even younger with Maryland native Cam Whitmore
Briefly

The Washington Wizards acquired forward Cam Whitmore from the Houston Rockets, sending two second-round draft picks in return. This move supports the Wizards' youth movement and offers a potential low-risk asset in Whitmore, who stands at 6-foot-7 and has notable scoring ability. Drafted 20th overall in 2023, Whitmore had a challenging start with Houston, averaging 9.4 points over 51 games last season. Being a local Odenton native, the trade also fulfills his childhood dream of playing for the Wizards, a team he grew up watching with his father.
The Wizards will send to Houston a 2026 second-round draft pick from Chicago and a 2029 second-round draft pick from Sacramento.
Trading for Whitmore, who turns 21 on Tuesday, continues Washington's youth movement and offers a low-risk gamble.
Whitmore averaged 9.4 points in 16.2 minutes, shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from three-point range.
The trade is a homecoming for Whitmore, an Odenton, Maryland, native who played at Archbishop Spalding.
