The Washington Wizards received the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, ending a decade without owning the top selection. The result ends the need to continue tanking for a top pick and supports a push back toward relevance in the Eastern Conference. The NBA has passed anti-tanking draft reforms that change lottery competitiveness immediately. The lottery expands from 14 to 16 teams, introduces a relegation zone where the bottom three teams face penalties with reduced chances for the No. 1 pick, and flattens odds. Under the new odds structure, there is a 71% chance the No. 1 pick goes to a 6th-to-12th-place team and a 29% chance it goes to a bottom-five team.
