NBA stars reflect on Wilt Chamberlain as SGA nears record
"Not much besides he was pretty insanely dominant. Based on the stats, did whatever he wanted and was like... Honestly, it feels almost like a mythical creature. It's not real."
"More than half a century after he retired, Chamberlain's name remains on dozens of pages in the NBA record book. Several of those records will probably belong to Chamberlain permanently, including his 100-point game, of which there is famously no video footage."
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning MVP, is on the verge of tying Wilt Chamberlain's obscure NBA record of 126 consecutive games scoring at least 20 points. Chamberlain, who retired over 50 years ago, remains one of basketball's most dominant figures with numerous records still standing, including his famous 100-point game. Modern stars who achieve Chamberlain-level statistics often know little about the Hall of Famer beyond his dominance. Gilgeous-Alexander describes Chamberlain as almost mythical, acknowledging that despite his impressive streak of 4,057 points, 582 rebounds, and 803 assists over 125 games, his numbers still pale compared to Chamberlain's legendary production.
