Jonas Eidevall, former Arsenal Women's coach, reveals he has no regrets about his departure from the club, particularly after the backlash over Vivianne Miedema's exit. Although he led Arsenal to two Women's League Cup victories, disappointment marked the start of his last season. Following a series of poor results and an internal struggle with fan sentiment, Eidevall decided to resign in early October. He explained that stepping away was necessary and incredibly challenging, highlighting the privilege of coaching a prestigious club like Arsenal as part of his reasoning.
I thought the easiest quick fix in this moment here now is for me to step away. It was extremely tough, both for me personally - my family of course - but also professionally.
It's a privilege to be leading a club like Arsenal. It's very special when you're there, so an extremely difficult decision to make.
The call not to extend Vivianne Miedema's contract...was met with extreme discontent from supporters. Eidevall has since shared that the decision was taken because they had the budget to either extend Miedema or sign Mariona Caldentey.
The start to this season did not go to plan. Arsenal won only four from nine games across all competitions in the opening weeks of the campaign, and just one of those came in the WSL.
