Unranked Nationals prospect makes history by hitting for cycle
"While all of the positive news on the farm and prospect front for the Washington Nationals has been focused on several of their top prospects, most notably Eli Willits and Jarlin Susana, they were not the only ones who made significant noise over the weekend. In fact, there could be a very real argument that the player who had the most impressive performance came from a prospect that is pretty unknown to the common fan."
"With Willits being the story for Low-A Fredericksburg, Susana being the story for AA Harrisburg, and guys like Christian Franklin putting up good numbers for AAA Rochester, High-A Wilmington was in need for a feel-good moment of their own. They got that and more with Pimentel's huge game on Sunday, as he finished the game 4/6 while hitting for the cycle, which even included his first homer of the season."
Brandon Pimentel, a 25-year-old corner outfielder and first baseman, hit for the cycle for High-A Wilmington and finished the game 4-for-6. He opened with a first-inning double off the right-field wall, added a right-center triple in the second, hit his first homer of the season in the fourth, and completed the cycle with a ninth-inning single. Other Nationals prospects produced notable performances as well, including No. 1 overall pick Eli Willits showing offensive and defensive potential at 17, Jarlin Susana delivering strong pitching outings, and Christian Franklin contributing at Triple-A Rochester.
