"During the 2024 season. Garkow struck out 37 batters in 15.2 innings, allowing just eight walks, four hits and two home runs. His miniscule 0.76 WHIP and commanding 21.6 K/9 rate was enough for Toronto to offer him a deal."
"In 29 games, Garkow allowed just five runs and 12 hits in 37 innings pitched. He racked up 54 strikeouts and only allowed 17 walks, with a 1.22 ERA. Garkow's 38.6 K% was fourth among all pitchers in Double-A (minimum 30 innings pitched) while his batting average against (.098) was first."
Nate Garkow followed an unconventional path to professional baseball after going undrafted from Point Loma Nazarene University. While working as a substitute teacher, retail employee, and pitcher for the Gateway Grizzlies in the Frontier League, he caught the attention of Blue Jays scouts with dominant performances including a 0.76 WHIP and 21.6 K/9 rate. Toronto signed him, and he continued succeeding as a reliever in Dunedin. After mixed results in 2024 with Vancouver, the Blue Jays promoted him to Double-A New Hampshire in late May, where he thrived with a 1.22 ERA, 54 strikeouts in 37 innings, and ranked among league leaders in multiple statistical categories.
