They were traded for MacKenzie Gore. Here's what MLB evaluators see.
"A clubhouse leader for Washington last season, the 26-year-old Gore takes with him a devastating arsenal and the upside of an ace. But for Nationals fans curious about the big picture, who saw a team that won 66 games in 2025 as a group that isn't close to postseason contention, there's a chance this deal helps jump-start a rebuild stuck in neutral."
"Paul Toboni, Washington's president of baseball operations, said he believes the return for Gore - shortstop Gavin Fien, right-handed pitcher Alejandro Rosario, outfielder Yeremy Cabrera, infielder Devin Fitz-Gerald and first baseman Abimelec Ortiz - should produce three to five good big leaguers. The package, largely composed of players who will start the year in the lower levels of the minors, drew mixed reactions by those contacted by The Washington Post."
MacKenzie Gore, a 26-year-old left-hander and clubhouse leader with ace upside, was traded to the Texas Rangers. Washington received five prospects: shortstop Gavin Fien, right-handed pitcher Alejandro Rosario, outfielder Yeremy Cabrera, infielder Devin Fitz-Gerald and first baseman Abimelec Ortiz. Team leadership projects the package should produce three to five good big leaguers. Most of the players will begin the year in the lower levels of the minors. MLB talent evaluators offered mixed assessments: one evaluator called every name a solid prospect and said the trade pushed the system toward a top-five farm, while another viewed the return as a collection of maybes. No single "can't miss" prospect emerged, though Gavin Fien drew particular attention as the likeliest to rise.
