Recapping the offseason firings within the Nationals' front office
"Toboni announced that the club will be moving forward with their managerial search soon, but it is still unclear who will be involved. As of now, there are basically zero whispers as to what direction the team will look in that search, but hopefully the club will choose someone who fits the mold of what Toboni wants in a manager that is able to adapt to modern trends."
"That might be part of the reason why DeBartolo, who has been in the organization for a long time, was offered the opportunity to stick around under Toboni moving forward. This was revealed late last week, as it was reported that DeBartolo would be staying with the organization, but a couple other big names were not as lucky. Assistant General Managers Eddie Longosz and Mark Scialabba both will not be returning to the organization moving forward."
The Washington Nationals have undergone major front-office turnover, replacing General Manager Mike Rizzo and Manager Dave Martinez. Paul Toboni was named President of Baseball Operations while the team has not yet selected a new field manager and will begin a managerial search. Interim GM Mike DeBartolo will remain with the organization under Toboni. Under Rizzo there were mixed signals about analytics and modernizing the game, and the approach shifted once DeBartolo became the lead executive for the remainder of the 2025 season. Long-tenured assistant GMs Eddie Longosz and Mark Scialabba will not return, and scouting leaders Danny Haas and Brad Ciolek departed for similar roles elsewhere.
