David Peterson kept the Nationals from regaining a winning record by allowing only one run over five innings, including escaping a bases-loaded threat in the first. The Mets scored their only runs in the third inning when Bo Bichette delivered a two-run single. Bichette continued a strong stretch in Washington, finishing the series with a 7-18 batting line, nine RBIs, three home runs, and a double. Cade Cavalli pitched seven innings of two-run ball on 84 pitches, limiting damage after the third inning. Washington’s offense finally produced a rally in the fifth with runners on second and third and no outs, but it did not turn into enough runs to overcome the Mets’ lead.
