Paul Toboni makes one thing clear: The Nats are open for business
"He has a desirable commodity in left-hander MacKenzie Gore, yet he also wants to win sooner rather than later. On Tuesday, Toboni said he will listen to all offers that come his way. He would be "dumb" not to, he said, but he stressed that the front office is by no means guaranteed to move Gore or any big leaguers this offseason."
"One major consideration: Toboni believes Gore (among others in the organization) has another level he can reach, and he believes the staff the team is building in Washington should help him reach his full potential. Gore, who will be 27 in spring training, was named an all-star for the first time in 2025, when he took the mantle as the team's ace and enjoyed a strong first half of the season. For the second consecutive year, however, Gore struggled in the second half."
Paul Toboni will listen to offers for left-hander MacKenzie Gore but is not committed to trading him this offseason. The Nationals must present a compelling vision to their young core while adhering to a realistic timeline for returning to contention. Several teams are expected to call with serious offers, though trades may wait until the front office and coaching staff are more settled. Washington will likely seek additional pitching regardless of Gore's status. Toboni believes Gore can improve further and that the staff being assembled can help him reach his potential. Gore reaches free agency after 2027 and is represented by Scott Boras.
