Paul DeJong has been reinstated by the Washington Nationals after recovering from a complex facial injury sustained from a pitch. Although he is ready to return, weather postponed the scheduled game. DeJong underwent surgery for a broken nose, cheekbone, and orbital floor. The Nationals have initiated roster changes to accommodate his return. He expressed gratitude for the support received during his rehabilitation, describing the experience as humbling. Originally the everyday third baseman, DeJong's presence is now complicated by the recent promotion of Brady House to regular play.
DeJong was struck by a 93-mph fastball from the Pittsburgh Pirates' Mitch Keller, and his injuries required surgery.
He said getting his body back into shape was the biggest task of his rehab assignment, but the process went as well as it could have.
It's been a humbling experience for me to go back to square one and just pray to get healthy and recover from a traumatic injury.
Before his injury, DeJong was the Nationals' everyday third baseman - perceived as a stopgap for prospect Brady House.
