The NWSL has announced a progressive move to permit intraleague loans for all teams and provide expansion franchises in Boston and Denver with substantial financial resources. Starting July 1, these teams will gain access to over $1 million in allocation money, crucial for player salaries and roster enhancements, outside of the salary cap. This initiative, aimed at improving league competitiveness and aligning with international practices, indicates a future where teams may receive varying rules during expansion.
"I think it's fair to say that we are trying more and more to align with our global counterparts," Stephanie Lee, the NWSL's VP of player affairs, told ESPN.
The league will fund half of that allocation money automatically, and the rest will be funded out of pocket by each team at their discretion.
