The Nationals won a series in Atlanta for the first time in two years, taking games from the team leading the standings. The result matters because that opponent had lost only one series all season. The Nationals have exceeded expectations, aided by organizational changes and new leadership under Paul Toboni. The Juan Soto trade reshaped the roster, bringing in James Wood and CJ Abrams, who are the team’s two best players. Both have All-Star experience and are making strong cases to return to the team again this year. Jarlin Susana has also emerged as a top prospect, while Robert Hassell III has been limited by depth chart placement. MacKenzie Gore’s later trade added more top prospects, including Gavin Fien and Devin Fitz-Gerald.
"While Robert Hassell III has contributed at the big league level previously but now is buried on the outfield depth chart and flamethrowing righty Jarlin Susana has emerged as a Top 100 prospect in all of baseball, there is no doubt that the Nationals have won the deal solely on the backs of Abrams and Wood. Both of them are 1-time All-Stars each, and are easily making a case to make the team again this year, especially Abrams, who might have as good of a case as any shortstop in the National League to start the game."
