"The FanGraphs WAR chart is accumulating data. This will start to give us a clearer picture in a few more weeks when the sample sizes get larger. The OAA defense stat is now giving us a picture of what the Nats have - and don't have. We will start adding more statistics as the sample sizes get larger."
The Washington Nationals arrived in Cincinnati early Sunday evening and received a needed day off, especially for a bullpen that struggled on Saturday and Sunday. The team’s flight was described as unhappy. Miles Mikolas is scheduled to start, and a rested Brad Lord could serve as a long reliever. After two straight losses in Miami, Washington needs Mikolas to lead the team to a win. Mitchell Parker may get more rest if scheduling aligns, after 6 1/3 perfect innings before unraveling on Saturday and Gus Varland struggling on Sunday. Richard Lovelady worked as an opener on Saturday. FanGraphs WAR and OAA defense metrics are accumulating data to clarify the team’s strengths and weaknesses as sample sizes grow.
