Josh Harris, owner of the Washington Commanders, is optimistic that the 2027 NFL draft, set to take place in D.C., will significantly elevate the city's football culture and potentially break attendance records. During a formal announcement in the Oval Office alongside NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and local officials, Harris projected that the event could attract more than one million visitors, driving substantial economic activity in the area. Plans are in progress to secure required permits, with the NFL expressing confidence in receiving federal support for the event's execution on the National Mall.
"I'm hoping we break 1 million in terms of the visitors... And so there'll be a million - plus or minus, a million visitors - and then all those people will create a lot of economic activity."
"We feel confidence, obviously, with the support we have at the federal level, the great working relationship and planning we've done with the National Park Service... to have now a full two-year runway leading up to the draft."
