Sonny Jurgensen died at age 91. He arrived in Washington from the Philadelphia Eagles in 1964 and became the long-awaited replacement for Sammy Baugh. Jurgensen developed a signature three-quarter windmill release and quickly became beloved by fans and respected by teammates. With receivers Charley Taylor, Bobby Mitchell, and Jerry Smith, he reduced interceptions and elevated his play. He completed 58 percent of passes in Washington for 22,585 yards and 179 touchdowns over 11 seasons, earned five Pro Bowl selections, appeared regularly in MVP conversations, was named to the 1960s All-Decade Team, had his No. 9 retired in 2022, and entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983.
