President Donald Trump has announced the restoration of Confederate names to seven U.S. military bases, a reversal of changes made during the Biden Administration based on a Pentagon study. These bases, originally named to honor Confederate leaders, were renamed due to their affiliation with historical racism. Trump made the announcement at Fort Bragg during a speech to military personnel, asserting the importance of keeping these names to maintain tradition and superstitions associated with military victories from these locations.
Many of those bases located in the South were given Confederate names in the middle of the 20th Century, at a time when southern states were still restricting the voting and assembly rights of Black Americans through Jim Crow laws.
Trump told soldiers... about his decision to restore the names of Confederate officers that led troops to preserve slavery in the southern states during the Civil War.
