Washington, D.C. officials are exploring the possibility of a grand military parade for President Trump's 79th birthday on June 14, which also marks the Army's 250th anniversary. Mayor Muriel Bowser confirmed discussions with the Trump administration are ongoing but emphasized the planning is still in preliminary stages. While details about the nature of the parade remain unclear, previous attempts to hold a military parade were met with local objections over damage to infrastructure. Trump's passion for grand military displays was reignited by his experiences at foreign parades, particularly in France.
Planning for the parade is still "early stages," but the procession is expected to start in Arlington, Va. at the Pentagon and span the four-mile stretch to the White House.
Mayor Muriel Bowser said Monday: "I understand that I think it was Homeland Security; maybe the White House reached out to our special events task force... so I would say it's at its early stages."
Trump has long set his sights on a blockbuster military parade in DC; during his first term in 2017, he wanted tanks and military vehicles to parade the streets.
A White House official stated: "no military parade has been scheduled," indicating that discussions are still in very preliminary stages.
