"If I'm lucky enough to get to that point, signing and joining Washington, I'll be super excited but probably super nervous too,"
"That's when I'm playing my best, when I've got the most nerves and swagger."
"Me and him text pretty much every day,"
"We're pretty close off the ice. I checked in when he got hurt, and he gives me an inside scoop on what the pro life is like."
Cole Hutson is a 19-year-old defense prospect playing his sophomore season at Boston University after being selected by the Washington Capitals in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft. At the end of the 2025-26 campaign, a likely three-year entry-level contract would require foregoing the rest of his college eligibility to turn pro. Hutson has produced strong offensive numbers, with 20 points in 18 games this season and 48 points in 39 games as an 18-year-old freshman. He earned the 2025 Tim Taylor Award as NCAA Rookie of the Year and helped Team USA win gold at the 2025 World Juniors. Hutson remains connected with former teammate Ryan Leonard, who is now with the Capitals, and has expressed both excitement and nerves about the prospect of signing and joining the NHL club.
