Timothy Liljegren spoke to Dmitry Orlov about Capitals after trade-deadline deal: 'He had nothing but good things to say'
"I just talked to him quick. But obviously he had nothing but good things to say about the city and the team. It just feel like a very tight-knit group (of players) that have fun every day they get to the rink. I'm excited to be here and be a part of it."
"Orlov spent spent his first 11 NHL seasons with the Capitals and was part of the 2018 Stanley Cup-winning team before his own trade-deadline deal saw him sent to the Boston Bruins in 2023, later noting that he'd hoped to retire in Washington."
Timothy Liljegren learned of his trade to the Washington Capitals while at the San Jose Sharks' rink. He already had connections in Washington through former Maple Leafs teammate Rasmus Sandin and ex-assistant coach Spencer Carbery. Fellow Sharks defenseman Dmitry Orlov, who spent 11 seasons with the Capitals and won the 2018 Stanley Cup with them, spoke positively about the organization before Liljegren's departure. Orlov had hoped to retire in Washington but was traded to Boston in 2023, later playing for Carolina before joining San Jose. Liljegren and Orlov played significant ice time together with the Sharks. Upon arriving in Washington, Liljegren described the team as a tight-knit group with a fun atmosphere.
