Timothy Liljegren and David Kampf receive their jersey numbers with Capitals
"I just got the number. I don't care about the number. I don't have a special number. I've played on so many different teams, I've had so many different numbers. (Timothy Liljegren on his flexibility regarding jersey numbers)"
"I got it in Chicago. I always wore number 10 when I was young, but six plus four equals 10, right? (David Kampf explaining the significance of his number 64 selection)"
The Washington Capitals made two trades at the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline, acquiring defenseman Timothy Liljegren and forward David Kampf. Liljegren switched from his previous number 37 to 27, a change he indicated he was comfortable with given his history of wearing different numbers across multiple teams. Number 37 remains unofficially retired by the Capitals in honor of legendary goaltender Olaf Kolzig. Kampf retained his number 64, which he has worn consistently since joining the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017. Kampf chose 64 because six plus four equals ten, his preferred number from his youth. Both players selected their new digits during a Saturday evening team event.
