Spencer Carbery says Capitals not interested in payback for Jacob Trouba's hit on Ryan Leonard as Dylan McIlrath will play in just his sixth game this season
"What Mac does for us, and what he does as a player, and what he's done through his career goes so much further than the physical part of the game. There's so many things that he brings to our group. And I'm not even talking about on the ice. I'm talking about in the locker room, his energy, his buy-in, how much he cares, how hard he competes. So that's evaluated every day."
"We would never - I would never, I'll speak for myself - just based on an event in a previous game, dress a guy."
The Capitals closed their season series with the Ducks a month after Jacob Trouba’s hit knocked rookie Ryan Leonard out for seven games. Dylan McIlrath draws into the lineup for his sixth game of the season, his first since the New York Rangers game on New Year’s Eve, providing physicality, fighting experience and locker-room energy. The lineup decision was not intended as retaliation for the Trouba hit. Expect a physical, hard game between two competitive teams. McIlrath has four assists and 40 penalty minutes in 31 career games with Washington, including six fighting majors.
