Washington Capitals ended a rebuild in 2024-25 and now project as legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. The team finished atop the Eastern Conference with 111 points and won its first playoff series since the 2018 championship before falling in the second round to the Carolina Hurricanes. Head coach Spencer Carbery earned the Jack Adams Award in his second season. The roster combined veteran pillars such as Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson and John Carlson with offseason additions and accelerated NHL exposure for top prospects. Continued prospect development remains necessary, but offseason moves and internal development created a solid foundation for future contention.
