Martin Fehervary feels '80-90 percent' healthy after knee surgery, plans to be ready for Opening Night: 'I'm happy to be in a regular jersey. I'm really excited.'
"I'm glad to see you guys. I've been back on the ice. It feels really good. Obviously, it's up and down with that knee, but I'm happy to be in a regular jersey and ready to make some progress."
"I would say [I feel] about like 80, 90 [percent healthy], or something like that. I hope I'll get some preseason games, but I think I'll be ready a little bit early, hopefully."
"It was good in the beginning, then I got to a point where I couldn't really move anywhere from the running or anything like that. It was just painful, and [I was] a little bit stuck there. But we are"
Martin Fehervary resumed full-team practice at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex in a regular practice jersey after tearing the meniscus in his right knee at the end of last season. The injury ended his streak of full 82-game seasons and kept him out of the Capitals' playoff run. He experienced lingering pain and inflammation after surgical repair but has progressed to on-ice work and informal skates beginning September 2. He estimates his health at roughly 80–90 percent and hopes to participate in preseason games. The team praised his early recovery, saw a mid-summer stall, and has observed recent improvement.
