Inside Jakob Chychrun's breakout: The big goals, 'unique' diet and Olympic pressures
""He scores goals where most other guys aren't even thinking about shooting," center Dylan Strome said."
""This guy's ability to finish from the back end is incredibly unique, even at this level. His ability to beat goalies clean with his snapshot or wrist shot is as elite as there is," he said."
""You just don't see it from guys on the back end. There are some forwards in the league that can snap it like you can, but not a lot of defensemen that can. He's just such a threat.""
""[Some say] he's just an 'offensive defenseman' that can only be deployed a certain way and you've got to protect him a little bit," Carbery said. "He wants no part of that mold. And that's what I've really appreciated about his path in our organization.""
Jakob Chychrun leads NHL defensemen with 15 goals through 38 games and has compiled 35 goals and 41 assists in his last 112 games, skating to a plus-39. He quarterbacks the power play, logs upwards of 25 minutes per game and matches up against opponents' top scoring lines while contributing defensively. Washington rewarded him with an eight-year, $72 million extension in March. His ability to finish from the back end with a snapshot or wrist shot creates a constant scoring threat and has put him under consideration for Team Canada at the 2026 Olympics.
