Eriks Mateiko, a Washington Capitals prospect playing his rookie season with the Hershey Bears, suffered a skate blade laceration to his right leg during the second period of a game against the Cleveland Monsters and was rushed off the ice without returning. He underwent surgical repair of a right Achilles tendon laceration and will miss the remainder of the season. Mateiko will also be unable to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics with Latvia. Latvia's national team conveyed wishes for his successful recovery. Mateiko finished the season with six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in 27 games.
