""Today on the plane, I told the guys, 'If I score, I'm going to bring out the roar one more time for old time's sake,'" McMichael told RMNB's Ian Oland. The 24-year-old forward kept his word, going full grizzly mode after sniping home a shorthanded goal at the 1:07 mark of the third period. "I'm glad I got a chance to do it," McMichael added."
"McMichael was slotted on the Capitals' second line in the game, skating between top prospect Andrew Cristall and Aliaksei Protas. He looked Protas off on the 2-on-1 chance to score the goal, shrugging apologetically towards the big Belarusian after going top shelf on goaltender Alexei Kolosov. "I feel bad," McMichael said postgame. "I just saw the goalie cheat a little bit, so I just shot it. I definitely apologized a couple times.""
Connor McMichael helped inaugurate the Hershey Bears' ROAR celebration, a routine created by Mike Vecchione, and used it throughout the 2022-23 season. The celebration's final moment with Hershey came after McMichael's Game 7 goal over the Coachella Valley Firebirds that clinched the 2023 Calder Cup. McMichael promised teammates on the plane that he would perform the ROAR if he scored in the preseason return to Hershey. He scored a shorthanded goal at 1:07 of the third period, celebrated, then apologized to linemate Aliaksei Protas after beating goalie Alexei Kolosov. Capitals won 5-1, with former Bears involved in all five goals. McMichael played 90 Hershey games with 66 regular-season points and 10 playoff points during the championship run.
